Don’T take our word for it …

The New York Times

It was dark and wintery, despite only being 4pm, on a Wednesday in December 2022 when the phone rang and we picked up to a friendly photographer, Andy. He asked to book a room. He was coming to take photos for The New York Times. He told us that we had made their 2023 list of the best places in the world to visit. When the list was published in January 2023 we were named #4.

Writer, traveller, and author of 3 travels books, Stanley Stewart visited Kilmartin Castle for Financial Times in December 2023. Each year the travel writers for FT are asked to name their discovery of the year. We are thrilled and absolutely flattered that Stanley chose Kilmartin Castle for 2023!

In 2024, Times Journalist Gemma Bowes crowned Kilmartin Castle ‘Scotland’s coolest castle’. Gemma spent her long weekend taking in the ancient history of the Glen with a Kilmartin Museum guide, wild swimming with Dan the Merman, kayaking the Fairie Isles and feasting with Will Hamer from Wild Kabn Kitchen.

In January 2024 Kilmartin Castle was featured in global affairs and lifestyle magazine Monocle, who created a exceptional guide to Scotland, including some of our own sought out hidden gems. With only 10 issues of the magazine printed per year, we feel extremely lucky to have been noticed by one of our preferred publications. Monocle magazines are not online but you can order a copy.

WE WON!

The BBC television series Scotland’s Greatest Escape has awarded Kilmartin Castle WINNER of the historical category. Watch it anytime on BBC iplayer.

The industry expert judges said: “ We loved the fact the owners had really thought about what their guests would want. We were also impressed by their environmental efforts”

In December 2019 Kilmartin Castle was featured in The Sunday Times. As a part of the feature, Kasia Sobocinska spent 2 days shooting an accompanying video.

Photographer Suzie Low and Art Director Gillian Welsh spent the day at Kilmartin Castle in 2019. They photographed the castle for an article in Scottish Homes & Interiors Magazine. Words by Catherine Coyle.

For the first 6-months of 2019, a team of filmmakers followed the renovation of Kilmartin Castle capturing the ups and downs of restoring such an old property.

The Great Hotel Escape on Channel 4, with Gogglebox’ Steph and Dom as hosts, aired in August 2019.

In early 2020, between Covid lockdowns, Sophie and Jason from Nine News Sydney visited Kilmartin Castle where they learnt about Simon’s ancestral links to the area.
